For the past few years, the world has become more and more temporally unstable. Rifts in time and space have started opening up all around the world, letting things slip through. Things like monsters, aliens, weird artifacts, strange people from different universes... and you.

One such rift is centered over Manhattan, in modern-day New York. And for the past few years, there were two factions in the city who attempted, in their own ways, to deal with it.

Since nearly the beginning of the crisis, the ROMAC group (Rift Observation, Management And Containment) had kept a lid on the strange forces at work and stranger new arrivals in the city. ROMAC semi-secretly monitored the rift, registered new arrivals, and protected the natives of New York - and the rest of the Earth - from dangerous alien entities. The people who ran ROMAC were neither heartless nor ruthless (well, most of them weren't). The group provided nonviolent arrivals with a place to live and an allowance to live on.

Some people, however, questioned ROMAC's motives and their right to control the lives of beings whose only crime was often that they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Depending on whom you asked, the Rebels of Manhattan were anything from idealistic seekers of justice to hypocritical terrorists. They concealed new rifties from the authorities, and infiltrated and sabotaged the operations of ROMAC when and where they could.

But neither faction was perfect, and neither was above imprisoning or manipulating the people under their care to further their own agendas. When it became clear that neither faction could really be trusted, the Rifties of Manhattan took matters into their own hands. ROMAC and the Rebels were both violently dismantled, and their records - both scientific and personal - scattered to the winds. The rift's existence, successfully hidden from the majority of the native population, became public knowledge.

Now, without the factions to help or hide them, it will be up to the Rifties to look after one another in a city that might not be too keen to welcome them. If they cooperate, however, they might just be able to survive - or even thrive - in the city they can't help but call home.

1. Please make sure you’ve read the premise, rules and FAQ.

2. Update your character journal's user info with at least some of the information from your application so other players can have a general sense of your character by looking at their profile.

3. Participate in one of our Dream Parties. They go up at the end of the month and usually last a week or two before slowing down. These parties function as test drives and are a great way to see how your character and writing style gels with the rest of the group.

4. If you're apping a character with canon-mates already in the game, talk to the players behind those characters to make sure you're all on the same page regarding impending CR and character arcs.

5. Fill out the application and post it to your character journal.

The application:

6. Request membership to [community profile] bigapplesauce, [community profile] applesauceooc, [community profile] applesaucedream, and [community profile] applesaucechat.

7. Post a comment on this post with the subject: "Character Name [Canon/OC]"
and including the following.

Permissions:
Fill out and post this to your character journal so other players can know what they can do with your character. Feel free to elaborate on how your character might react, or specifics and boundaries, and whether to discuss it with you first.

This is not mandatory, but is very helpful in avoiding misunderstandings. Please also check a character’s permissions before you do these things.

All applications should be processed within two weeks time, usually faster. If your application is denied, we will always present you with reasons and suggestions for improvement. We'd love to have you in the game.

If you have not for some reason heard back from us within two weeks of application submission, then please feel free to contact us!

Bear in mind that a power does not necessarily have to be voluntary, nor do they need to be useful. Furthermore, all powers can (and should) come with restrictions that specify under what circumstances or to what extent they will work.

THE CATS

All cats go where they please, but there are cats in Manhattan that take that adage to the extreme. They might be mistaken for strays, but upon closer examination, it's clear they're something more. Their eyes are a blank, pearlescent white. They have an unsettling tendency to show up, suddenly and without invitation, in locked apartments or other ostensibly cat-proof places. And they can talk, when they have something to say.

The exact nature of the cats is difficult to discern, but if you get to know them - or happen to catch their notice - you will find that they have distinct personalities beneath the layer of Smug they all seem to share. Their interests seem to vary, and they do not always get along with one another. But some things they all share: a broad interest in the Rifties of Manhattan, and certain knowledge of the Rift itself.

They might be willing to share some of their secrets, if you have something to offer them in return.

This page serves two purposes:

1. Big Applesauce runs on a ratio of four real life days per each day in the game, meaning game-time lags significantly (and increasingly) behind real-time. Our reference calendar at the bottom of the post is here to help you quickly look up what day it is in Manhattan when labeling your posts.

2. Plots! Mod-generated plots are listed here, but this is also a place for players to propose and discuss game-wide plots and events. Please give us at least a week of lead time to add events to the calendar, and remember to help spread the word about your event on the ooc comm. When proposing a plot, please include a summary, expected duration, and desired date(s).

UPCOMING PLOTS, EVENTS, AND HOLIDAYS
(Listed by game date; real-time dates in parentheses)

CALENDAR
Allowance days for characters financially dependent on Aziraphale or Gabriel happen whenever either of them can be bothered. Previous game calendar pages available upon request.
